HomeMy WebLinkAbout92-111ARESOLUTION NO 92-111 A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR THE POLICIES OF THE FEDERAL FAIR HOUSING ACT AND ITS APPLICATION IN THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND. Be It Resolved by the City council of the City of Port Townsend: 1. That it be known to all persons of the City of Port Townsend that discrimination in the sale, rental, leasing or financing of housing or land to be used for the construction of housing, or in the provision of brokerage services because of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, handicapped or familial status is prohibited by the Federal Fair Housing Act. It is the policy of the City of Port Townsend to ensure equal opportunity in housing for all persons regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, handicapped or familial status. 2. That the City will encourage all persons who feel they have been discriminated against because of race, color, religion, sex, national'origin, handicapped or familial status to seek equity under federal and state laws by exercising their right to file a complaint with the Washington Human Rights Commission or the U S Department of Housing and Urban Development, Seattle Regional office Compliance Division. 3. ThBt the City will publicize this Resolution and through this publicity shall cause owners of real estate, developers and builders to become aware of their respective responsibilities and rights under the Federal Fair Housing Law and any applicable state or local laws or ordinances. 4. Thus the City shall also post Federal Fair Housing Act posters in public places to assist in bringing to this affected the knowledge of their respective rights and responsibilities concerning equal opportunity in housing. The city Clerk/Treasurer shall be designated as the contact person for disseminating information on the Federal Fair Housin~q~ Act and its coverage. .
