A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND
AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO SUPPORT POWER WASHINGTON'S PROPOSAL TO
DISTRIBUTE FUNDING TO ELIMINATE HAZARDOUS WALKING CONDITIONS.
The City of Port Townsend has limited personnel and financial resources with which
to expand, maintain and periodically upgrade pedestrian facilities in the City; and
The Power Washington Committee anticipates distributing funds from a class action
lawsuit filed against a group of oil companies. The court approved proposal leaves
9.5 million dollars to the discretion of Power Washington; and
WHEREAS, Power Washington proposes to use a portion of these funds to help local agencies
eliminate hazardous walking conditions as recognized by state law; and
The Port Townsend School District has identified hazardous walking conditions near
Grant Street Elementary School, Mountain View Elementary School and Blue Heron
Middle School; and
The Public Works Department, in conjunction with the School District, has applied
for funding to eliminate hazardous walking conditions based on Power Washington
distributing funds for this purpose,
N O W T H E R E F O R E
Be It Resolved by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend that it supports Power
Washington's proposal to distribute a portion of the 9.5 million dollars to eliminate hazardous
walking conditions as identified by state law.
Adopted by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend and signed by the Mayor this 1 st day of
April, 1996.
