Thanks! Steve From: Mr S Y <syanof@yahoo.com> Sent: Thursday, September 19, 2024 9:20 AM To: prtab@cityofpt.us Subject: more effort for native plants please Dear Advisory Board, These comments regard the tree subcommittee update of the Parks, Recreation, Trees & Trails August 27, 2024 meeting, specifically the recommended tree list in the Memorandum from MacLeod Reckford consultants. appreciate your efforts to help guide the Sims Gateway roadside re -landscaping, and more generally to devise recommendations for planting and landscaping in Port Townsend. However I urge you to more strongly prioritize solutions that encourage native plants and native plant landscaping. I also urge you to find acceptable regional substitutes for non -regional species recommendations. Species from our Puget Sound region, the Northwest, and the North American northern west coast should be prioritized over species from elsewhere. I understand it is challenging to manage urban aesthetics, Landscaping and maintenance, commercial desires like those of the Boat Haven boat industry, wildlife issues like traffic threats, etc. But I am concerned that the latest plant recommendations from the are too limited. There needs to be more research and effort to find acceptable creative solutions that prioritize native plants. Also the plants recommendations spreadsheet/list should specify geographic origin, and if a cultivar, and not simply native or non-native. Thankyou, Steven Yanoff Port Townsend
