RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND
AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE A PROFESSIONAL SERVICES
AGREEMENT WITH THE BOILER ROOM FOR 1998 CONTRACT SERVICES
The City Council of the City of Port Townsend, Washington, resolves as follows:
WHEREAS, The Boiler Room, conceived in 1993 as a safe haven for at-risk youth in
Port Townsend, has created an environment which supports the expression and activities of all
the youth in Port Townsend as part of the larger community; and
WHEREAS, The Boiler Room is a nonprofit organization with the following stated
goals:
· to empower youth through their active participation in dally operational, financial
and educational activities of the organization;
· to maintain a "safehouse" space that provides youth advocacy and connects youth to
the available community resources; and
to provide a drug-, alcohol- and smoke-free environment that offers food,
refreshments, art, music and activities of choice for high-risk youth and young
adults in a home-like atmosphere; and
WHEREAS, The Boiler Room has expanded its services, some of which are:
providing youth job services and skill-building programs, mentoring programs, and a network
of services including counseling and resource services;
WHEREAS, The Boiler Room has requested that the City officially help support its
efforts by payment of a grant of $2,500 for 1998; and
WItEREAS, the community, including the Jefferson County Community Network, the
Juvenile Offender Information Network, local psychologists and citizens, have expressed their
support of the Boiler Room's grant proposal; and
WHEREAS, the community has shown its support of The Boiler Room as evidenced
by the time and f'mancial contributions of many citizens; and
WHEREAS, the~Board of Directors of The Boiler Room has secured matching grant
funds; and
WltEREAS, as recommended by the Finance Committee, the City desires to
encourage continuation of the types of services provided by The Boiler Room by financially
supporting specific and identifiable programs and services; and
WHEREAS, the Council approved the requested grant through the 1998 Budget,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council for the City of Port
Townsend that the Mayor is authorized to sign the Professional Services Agreement between
the City and The Boiler Room, a nonprofit Washington State corporation, in substantially the
same form as attached.
ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend and signed by the Mayor
on this 17th day of February, 1998.
