A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND TO CONTINUE
TO ALLOW THE USE OF THE CITY'S PROPERTY AT WASHINGTON AND MONROE STREETS
AS A SKATEBOARD RECREATION AREA UNTIL APRIL 15, 1999.
WHEREAS,
The City of Port Townsend has opened up certain public land for the purpose of outdoor
recreation, by allowing the free, unsupervised use of the parking lot located at Washington
and Monroe Streets for skateboarding purposes; and
WHEREAS, The citizens of our community, of all ages, have made substantial use of this facility and have
demonstrated considerable community support for its continuation as its present site; and
WHEREAS, The ramps used by the skateboarders have been donated by the skateboarders or the
community, and have not been built, designed, or maintained by the City; and
WHEREAS, The youth of our community have demonstrated maturity and responsibility in the use of this
site for skateboarding; and
WHEREAS, The City has allowed the use of this public property, without City oversight, management or
control (with the exception of Police supervision); and
WHEREAS,
The City of Port Townsend's Parks, Recreation and Property Committee unanimously believe
the skateboard area is an excellent way to encourage our citizens to get exercise and have fun
in a positive manner,
NOW THEREFORE, Be It Resolved, that the City Council of the City of Port Townsend will continue to
allow recreational use of the City's property, without charge, as a Skateboard Recreation Area at its present
location until April 15, 1999.
ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend and signed by the Mayor this 6th day of April,
1998.
