Mr. Johnson proposes to vacate the west-half of Adams Street abutting Lot 1 Block 25 of the Mountain View 2nd Addition (Area B). This undeveloped portion of Adams Street is approximately 1,635 square feet in size. It is generally located to the east of the intersection of developed N Street and undeveloped Chestnut Street. Concurrent with the hearing on Johnson’s request, Council will consider a City initiated vacation of a 30 x 60-foot portion. of Reed Street (Area A) lying west of Quincy Street and immediately north of the City’s Morgan Hill Reservoir in the Mountain View Addition. Under separate action, City Council will consider surplusing the northerly 50-feet of the 60-foot wide Reed Street to Johnson. The City would retain the southerly ten-feet to protect the Reed Street trail. The proposed vacations would allow Johnson, through a separate Lot Line Adjustment and Critical Area Permit process, to create two buildable lots on flatter ground outside of geologically hazardous slopes. In exchange for vacation of Areas A and B (3,135 sq. ft.), Johnson would dedicate to the City a 7-foot strip of his property along unopened Chestnut Street (Area C - 3,163 sq. ft.). The dedication benefits the public by securing the existing Chestnut Street trail corridor which currently meanders onto private property.
