See the construction plans tri-lrri"-project fordetails. S@PE ltrc[CI\UA:[IRE Sl.TrltlIlRY OF SYSTEI| Nearly all flows for this proiect were calculated- at the z, zs and 100 yearlevels. Flows in such conditions are written such as (1.2s, 2.43, 3.02)where 1"25 represents the 2 year flow, 2.43 ttre zs year flow, and 3.02 the 100year flow. The systern is designf 1o accept stornrater runoff, including that frcn roofdrains, in a Srass lined ditch adjacent to gacfun Street. The water willbe treated by biofiltration as it flows """i[""ry along the grassy ditch toa catch basin' It will then be piped back to lhe south in a storm sewer systenrto a detention pond to be located io the souiheast of the project. PREDEVErcHilEArI FI.CPS The area covered by these drainage calculations is G.7 acres in size. The soilsare identified in libp 40 of the Soir survey-oi-g"tt"""on-cour,iy as being saB,san Juan gravelly sandy loarn. A copy of trlap 40 with the project location shownis attached as Appendix l. Neither the soil survey nor the DE's "Technical rdanual" give a hydrologic groupfor this soil series. The description of the series eiu"i-in tn" soil surveywould tend to indicate that it should ue praceJ in tryiroi;g;; eroup e. A fierd I Page 2 inve:;tigation revealed that the soil in the inmediate vicinity of this projectis less perrneable than indicted by the Soil Survey. For this reason, these calculations assune that the soils are in hydrologic group B. While well over half of the drainage basin is presently occupied by singlefanrily residences, these calculations are based on an "existing" land use of"natural." A runoff curve nrmber for this condition was assurned to be 72, which corresPonds to "young second growth or brush" and hydrologic group B in Table2-2a of the Western Washington Supplenrent to the Soil Conservation Service'sTechnical Release No 55. A copy of Table 2-2a is included as Appendix I I. Total rainfall for the 24 hour design period for the area cras taken to be 1.0,2.0 and 2.5 inches at the 2, 25 and 100 year level respectively. These valueswere taken frcrn isopluvial naps published by the Soil Conservation Service. Copies of-these naps are included as Appendix IIt. A tirrE of concentration of 5 minutes was assuned for both the predeveloped andthe postdeveloped conditions. Experience has shown that use of tinres ofconcentration of less than 5 minutes yields unrealistic results. For snall basins and low flows such as are experienced with this project, neither the peakflow nor the total volure are particularly sensitive to variations in the tinnof concentration. As long as the actual tinre of concentration would be lessthan or slightly greater than 5 minutes, the use of 5 minutes will yield '. appropriate results. The above data was entered into the KirE County Public gorks Deparlrnent'sccrputer progran'FIID." Printouts generated during the ccrputer run are included. as Appendix IV. Predevelopnent flows frqn the basin were calculated to be'(0.O2, 0.15, 0.45). Cqrplete hydrographs of predevelopnnnt flows are included as Appendix V. M$(T[I-M ALI-CPABLE FI-OTS llaxfunrn postdeveloprnnt offsite release rates were taken to be(0.01, 0.15, 0.45) which is in keeping with the requiranents given in theEE's Technical Manual and with the requirernents of the Vashington State Departrnnt of Fisheries. POSTETEI.OH'IENT Ft-CtrS Postdevelopnrent conditions were calculated with the assurption that developnentwould be consistent with the levels listed in Table III-l-12 of the Technicalllanual. A copy of this table, which is an extension of TR-55's Table 2-2a,is included as Appendix VI. This basin will have approxinntely 2.8 dwellingunits per gross acre. Interpolating frcn Table III-l-12 yields 33 percentor 2.2 acres inpervious. This leaves 4.5 aicres pervious. A curve nunber P;rge 3 of 98 was used for inpervious surfaces. A curve nunber of 80 was used for pervious surfaces in the developed condition. This curve nwber correspondswith "lawns in good condition" in both TR-55's Table 2-2a and DE's Table r r r-t-t2. This data was run through King County's FIYD progran. The resulting hydrographs are included as Appendix VI l. STCRM SESIER DESIC^I The storm sewer was sized to pass the peak, postdevelopnent floi'at the 25year level. At the 100 year level, some flows will flow overland during thepeak 20 minutes of the design event. Calculations of the minirnrn slope areincluded as Appendix VIII. They indicate that the design flow will require a minim,rn"slope ot. 0.2%. DETEr.ITICN FCIO The hydrographs contained in Appendix VII were routed throWh the pond usinglevel pond routing techniques. The actual calculations were perfornred bya ccnputer progran written in-house. Details of the pond are shonm on the --, construction plans for this project. A staging table for the pond for depths up to l0 feet is included as Appendix IX. That table is a listing of flowconditions' including flow via all controls, as a function of depth. Routingdata for 2, 25; and 100 year events are tabulated in Appendices X, XI, and XIIrespectively. Ttre resulting release hydrographs are included as Appendix XIlt. Graphs of predeveloprnnt, postdevelopnnnt and detained (mitigated) hydrographsare included as Appendix XIV.
