MINUTES OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION REGULAR SESSION OF AUGUST 13,
2020
CALL TO ORDER
The Planning Commission met in regular session on August 13, 2020 in City Council
Chambers at 540 Water Street. Chair Palmer called the meeting to order at 6:35 p.m.
ROLL CALL
Commissioners present at roll call were Karen Anderson, Bob Doyle, Rick Jahnke,
Aislinn Palmer, Paul Rice, and Viki Sonntag with Lois Stanford absent.
Staff members present were Development Services Director Lance Bailey, and
Deputy City Clerk Haylie Clement.
ACCEPTANCE OF AGENDA
There were no changes to the agenda.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES —JANUARY 23 AND FEBRUARY 13, 2020
Motion: Bob Doyle moved to approve the minutes of January 23 and February 13,
2020. Karen Anderson seconded.
Vote: motion carried unanimously, 6-0 by voice vote.
GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT
Robert and Barbara Gray submitted written comment on Engage PT and affordable
housing (clerk read the written comment into the record).
Commissioner Stanford joined the meeting at 6:40 p.m.
Development Services Director Lance Bailey acknowledged the public comment and
provided an overview of the Engage PT campaign. The Planning Commission will be
involved in the Shoreline Master Program initiative.
OLD BUSINESS
There was no old business.
NEW BUSINESS
Proposed Code Amendment to allow "Day Care Centers and Preschools" as a
permitted use in the C-II(S) commercial zoning district
Lance Bailey introduced the proposed code amendment beginning with the
background of the subarea plan adoption. It was explained that the Day Care
Planning Commission Meeting August 13, 2020 Page 1 of 2
Center/Preschool use was changed in error/oversight.
UPCOMING MEETINGS
There will be a public hearing on the proposed code amendment and a briefing on the
Shoreline Master Program Periodic Review at the August 27th meeting. Lance Bailey
provided a status update on other city meetings.
The Planning Commission requested to add to the next meeting agenda, an item to
discuss drafting a letter to City Council to recommend that they reconvene the Council
Housing Committee.
COMMUNICATIONS
There were no communications.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:16 p.m.
