Introduction
Olympic Wetland Resources, LLC, has been authorized by Simon Little, Studio STL to assess an
excavation on parcel I01342 0l I for the presence of wetlands. This undeveloped 3.3 acre parcel
west of Hendricks Street, Port Townsend, WA is under review for development. The assessment
was conducted on March 3A,2020 during the beginning of the growing season when local water
tables are at a seasonally high level. The site consists of pasture and slopes to the south; the
excavation falls in the western portion of the parcel. The excavation is approximately 143' long
by 83' wide with a dept of 6 to 7 feet. All side slopes to the bottom are gentle; it was reportedly
created by previous owners as a wind block for a fire pit.
Description of Site
r Legal Description: Parcel I01342 011, Section 34 Township 3lN Range 1W
o Location: West of Hendricks Street near 54th Street

The City of Port Townsend Critical Areas Map (2008) does not indicate mapped wetlands on or
near this parcel.
Methodology
Fieldwork to determine the actual wetland boundaries was conducted according to the methodology
outlined inthe Regional Supplementto the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers Wetland Delineation
Manual (2.0). All wetlands within the City of Port Townsend are subject to requirements
outlined under Critical Areas Ordinance (2018), Wetlands, 19.05.1 10.
Findings
No wetland indicators were identified on this parcel. A soil test pit was dug to 16 inches at the
bottom of the excavation. There was no soil saturation or hydrology in the soil pit even though
neighboring downslope wetlands (Quimper Wildlife Conidor) still contains ponding and
seasonally high water tables.
The soil type is within the Swantown series, as mapped by NRCS and consists of gravelly loam
and is reported to be moderate to well drained. The soil matrix colors in the soil test pit did not
quali$'as hydric (1OYR 4/3) although redoximorphic features (mottles 5YR 4/6 red brown) were
identified.

The vegetation was similar to adjacent parcels dominated by pasture grasses although species at
the bottom of the excavation were less vigorous due to historic soil compaction. The following
species were identified by last year's growth or existing seed structures. There is a clear majority
of upland herb and grass species (FACU) with only two wetland tolerant species present (FAC,
or FAC-).
