Topic Mations/Recom' endation/Action
Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 3:02 p.m.
Approval of Agenda The agenda was unanimously approved with one change—
moving up "Correspondence" to the beginning of the
meeting.
Correspondence
Amber Long read an email from Michelle Hagewood resigning
from the Commission and expressing her appreciation for the
experience and for the other Commissioners.
Introduction of New Member Diane Walker
Diane introduced herself as relatively new to Port Townsend
and described her arts-related volunteer experience.
Commissioners introduced themselves, discussed the
challenges of virtual meetings, and reflected on Michelle
Ha ewood's resignation.
Approval of Minutes for July 7, 2021 Meeting The minutes of July 7, 2021 were unanimously approved.
Public Comment None
Chair's Update The Commission must submit the 2022 workplan and
Jason recapped his conversation with the City Attorney about budget request to the City Manager in September.
Council committee reorganization and explained that the
Commission could use a form currently being developed to
add the poet laureate proposal to its 2021 workplan.
Funding Application – Bill Evans Dance The Commission unanimously voted to fund $500.
Bill Evans explained that Arts Commission funding would cover
free tickets to a rehearsal of an upcoming dance performance.
He answered questions about promotion for the tickets and
equitable distribution.
Topic Mations/Recommendatian/Action
Funding Application — Jefferson County Farmers Markets The Commission unanimously voted to fund $400.
Marketing Manager Pat Milliman described how Commission
funding would help offset costs for arts and crafts vendors who
have already reserved booth space at the September markets.
Proposal for 2022 Workplan — Poet Laureate
Commissioners expressed disappointment in the lack of
feedback from City leadership on the proposal.
Proposal for 2022 Workplan — Public Art Maintenance
Dan briefly described work done so far and stated that he
expects the project to be complete in a few months.
Proposal for 2022 Workplan — Mission Statement The Commission voted 5-1 to task the Chair with
Dan proposed changing a mission statement that previously communicating to the City Manager that the Commission
appeared on the Commission's webpage to convey that the would like to (1) establish the following mission statement: "It
Commission's work benefits East Jefferson County residents in is our mission as an appointed City Commission to facilitate
addition to people who live within City limits. public arts programs that enhance the cultural life of
community residents," and (2) once authorized, have the
mission statement posted on the Commission's web a e.
There was general agreement to hold a special meeting in
about two weeks when the workplan and budget request
tem laces will be available.
