A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT
TOWNSEND ESTABLISHING DESIGN DIRECTIVES TO THE WASHINGTON
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO ENABLE COMPLETION OF
DESIGN WORK ON THE SIMS WAY PROJECT
The City Council of the City of Port Townsend, Washington, does resolve as follows:
WHEREAS,
the State Department of Transportation has appropriated funds for certain
improvements to SR 20/Sims Way, with the project to begin during the summer of
2000; and
WHEREAS, certain specific design directives must be supplied to the DOT so that design work
can be completed in a timely manner; and
the City Council has held two special meeting to receive public comment
regarding the design of the project on October 25, 1999 and January 31, 2000;
and
WHEREAS, at the January 31 meeting, consensus was reached on the remaining design
decisions;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend,
as follows:
SECTION 1. That in the Hancock Street to Hendricks Street section of Sims Way, the bus
pullout will be moved from the originally proposed location (between Hancock & Sherman) one
block east (between Sherman and Hendricks); the pedestrian crosswalk will be located adjacent
to the new bus pullout;
SECTION 2. On street parking will be eliminated between Hancock and Hendricks Streets;
SECTION 3. Curbing will be added on the north side of the street between Hancock and
Hendricks;
SECTION 4. New stormwater piping will be added between Sheridan Street and Sims Way;
SECTION 5. On-street parking will be eliminated adjacent to the Bay View Restaurant, with a
loading zone to be retained which will accommodate restaurant deliveries and the Jefferson
Transit Dial-A-Ride;

SECTION 6. Striping and signage for a bicycle lane will be added from Hancock Street to the
ferry terminal.
SECTION 7. Staff will provide cost estimates and funding sources to the City regarding the
expense to the city for the curbing on the north side between Hendricks and Hancock,
stormwater pipe for the Sheridan Street and Sims area; and extra striping and signage for bicycle
lanes prior to the February 7 regular meeting.
ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend and signed by the Mayor on this
