Park Name Change (Dahlia Park) A. Debbie Jahnke reported that the “tree adoption” event on Saturday at Mountain View parking lot was very successful. B. Debbie Jahnke expressed concern about religious naming of City property. The suggested name change for the park is “Brighten the Corner” which is the title of a religious hymn. The name is also thought to be too long. A motion was made by John Nowak and seconded by Jennifer Rotermund that the City go back to the Master Gardeners and ask for another name option that would be a single non-religious word. The motion passed unanimously. Alex Wisniewski noted that until that change is made the park will remain Daliah Park. New Business A. Recreation & Maintenance Update B. Golf Course RFP Evaluation and Alternative Uses C. Golf Course Future A. Alex Wisniewski gave an update on current department operations. John Nowak noted that the JeffCo Aquatic Coalition (John is a board member) is in support of the pool reopening. B. Alex Wisniewski gave an overview of the report made to Council with the results of the Golf Course Survey as well as the RFP evaluation and interview process that has occurred. C. Alex Wisniewski asked the PRTAB for feedback about the options and any thoughts about the future of the Golf Course. John Nowak made a motion to recommend to City Council that an open space element is retained as a component of the golf course, as its future use is considered. Jennifer Rotermund seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. Next Meeting: The November 23, 2020 meeting was cancelled, a special meeting is planned for December 1, 2020 December 1, 2020 Board and Public Comment: Jennifer Rotermund commented that there is a desire to erect a shade/rain/weather shelter at Mountain View Dog Park. Alex Wisniewski suggested that a proposal be sent to him as to what this would look like and how they would propose to fund it. Full-time staff returned to work on November 16, 2020 2. Targeting a reopening of the pool in mid-December with reduced days, hours, staff, and programs b. Rentals 1. Suspended 2. Maintenance a. Parks – maintenance focused on basic upkeep and safety only; workplan and improvement projects currently on-hold b. Trails – maintenance focused on basic upkeep and safety only; workplan and improvement projects currently on-hold Story Walk Proposal When: December 12, 2020; 11am-3pm Where: Kah Tai Lagoon Nature Park What: From MaryBeth Armstrong… Students, grades 1-8, are taking part in a national challenge- National Write a Novel in a Month. I will ask them to select one of their favorite pages from their book and post it along the waterfront trail for people to read. I plan to post one laminated page on a stake, roughly eye level or lower. Book pages will be displayed on the same temporary sign posts that the Library uses, they will be installed and removed by MaryBeth Armstrong on the same day.
