Tree Risk Assessment Final Written Report
I, Che Taylor, find that copper beech tree assessed at 336
Filmore street on July 25th, 2019, has an overall low risk rating
for the next 3 years.
Comments: The copper beech assessed appears to be vigorous, in
overall good health and a great species for a landmark tree.
An 8” cavity, 4.25” deep on the main trunk from a previous stem
removal looks to be compartmentalizing well.
The co dominant stems on either side of the main trunk do have some
included bark, but overall the attachments seem strong. Ample
amounts of reaction wood at the base of these stems and around the
unions are present, so the tree is actively building tissue to further
support these regions. Reduction pruning on the crowns of the co
dominant stems could reduce the load on these defects. A support
system could also be installed to further reduce the likelihood of
failure.
An aerial inspection of the crown was not performed but the utility
pruning on the north side of the tree appears to be done properly. No
heading cuts were noticed.
A dead, hanging limb was present on the south side of the main trunk.
There is also a limb directly above the chimney that should be pruned.
Mitigation Options:
1: Reduction pruning of co dominant stems Residual risk: Low
2: Installation of a structural support system Residual risk: Low
3: Removal of dead hanging limb Residual risk: Low
4: Prune back limb overhanging chimney Residual risk: Low
5: Inspect again in 3 years
