WHOLE HOUSE VENTILATION SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS (302.3) Each dwelling unit shall be equipped with a whole house ventilation system capable of providing the volume of air specified in Table 3-2 under normal operating conditions. Controls (302.3.2) shall be readily accessible and capable of operating the system without energizing other energy-consuming appliances. Intermittently operated systems shall have the capability for continuous operation, and have a manual and automatic control such as an automatic control timer. At the final inspection the timer shall be set to operate the whole house fan for at least 8 hours per day. Fan Noise (302.3.3) for whole house fans located 4 feet or less from the interior grille shall have a sone rating of 1.5 or less measured at 0.10 inches water gauge. Remotely mounted fns shall be isolated from the structural elements of the building and attached duct work using insulated flexible duct or other approved material. Exception: systems integrated with forced-air heating systems or heat-recovery ventilation systems are exempt from sone ratings. Ducts (302.3.4) shall terminate outside the building.
