JOB NUMBER: 09018.04 Note: All comments are observations and not considered inspections Please call with any additional comments or corrections OBSERVATIONS AND RECOMMENATIONS On 23 July 2009 Darren S. Johnston, P.E. from this office visited the site referenced above to review the installation of the Unit 404 guardrail replacement. At the time of our site visit all three replacement posts were placed and the end infill panels were placed. The side infill panel and the top rails remained to be installed. Final connections will be made and all fasteners tightened once the complete guardrailing system was fully erected. Review of the under-balcony floor framing revealed that the blocking and framing clips shown in our detail package dated 5 June 2009 were acceptably completed. Additionally, existing joist hangers that were found with incomplete nailing in the"double-shear"fastener location were completed by the contractor, The existing balcony floor framing was framed in an inconsistent manner from one side to the other. As a result the lag screws per our original details would be inserted only in the end grain of the existing joists. Since the layout of the joists and lag screws could not be controlled we have furnished a supplementary side plate connection using two ',iz"diameter lag screws andfor 112"diameter thru bolts to restore capacity to the connection.
