Minutes of the Port Townsend Arts Commission Meeting of September 4, 2019 LOCATION: City Hall Conference Room 3
MEMBERS PRESENT: Dominica Lord-Wood, Owen Rowe (Chair), Kris Morris, Dan Groussman, Stan Rubin,
Nhatt Nichols, Maryann Tapiro and Becky Busi. MEMBERS EXCUSED: Shelly Leavens STAFF PRESENT: Executive Assistant Kelly Graves
Topic Motions/Recommendation/Action
Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 3:01 p.m.
Approval of Agenda The agenda was approved with moving the Chairs update under Agenda approval, and adding item Public Arts Update as item C Approval of Minutes for September 4, 2019 Minutes approved 7-0 unanimously (One member abstained as they were not present last meeting) Public Comment No Public Comment
Budget Update The Commission has paid out:
$721.00 to Key City Theatre (Pay what you wish)
$820.00 to Jeff Co Farmers Market (Artisan Food Fest) $1757.25 to Native Connection Action Group $2100 to Northwind. There is a balance of $607.75 in the Arts Commission
general fund and $555 in LTAC.
Funding Application: Songwriting Works
Judith-Kate Friedman presented to the Commission to
fund two events that are being hosting by Memory Café (Port Hadlock & Quilcene libraries) It is a workshop for people with memory loss to come and make music. Funding will help program costs/community outreach.
Outreach will be for surrounding counties. These events
would benefit residents of PT.
The Commission voted 8-0 to fund $500.00 from the general
fund.
Funding Application: PT School of the Arts
Teresa Verraes presented to the Commission for the Sherry Grover Art Sparks events. Free exhibit for the public with 600 artists, and awareness builder for local artists. Goal is to get more people in PT school of the arts
The commission voted 7-0 to fund $500 from LTAC funds with
Nhatt recusing herself.
Topic Motions/Recommendation/Action
and in arts classes. Funds will help with advertising
outside of PT. Cost of ads in “The Stranger” Seattle paper.
Chairs Update: Mr. Rowe announced that he is stepping down as Chair of
the Arts Commission effective after today’s meeting. The Commission will have elections at the October meeting to appoint the Chair/Vice Chair for the remainder of the year.
Creative District Letter of Support Letter of intent has been sent, and the application has a deadline, that needs a letter of support from the Arts Commission.
The Commission Voted 7-0 with Mr. Rowe abstaining from voting to approve the draft letter and the addition of Mr. Rowe adding a sentence about what the PT Arts Commission is. Mr. Rowe will sign the letter as the current Chair and send it to Main
Street.
Public Arts Committee
Artwork for the “For Willene” plaque was shown to the
Commission for approval.
The Commission agreed that the art was approved as is.
Angel of the Arts/Patron of the Arts Update
The Commission discussed outreach and coordination for
refreshments/Set-up/Clean-up for this event. A proclamation form needs to be filled out and turned into the Clerks office.
Outreach Committee Report The last meeting was very successful, website updates were discussed. Talked about online application, working on event to launch new process.
The next meeting is scheduled for Monday Sept 16.
