HomeMy WebLinkAbout100918 MinutesLODGING TAX ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES DATE: October 9, 2018 START TIME: 3:00 p.m. LOCATION: City Hall Conference Room 3 VOTING MEMBERS PRESENT: Nathan Barnett (via teleconference), Cindy Finnie (via teleconference), Michelle Sandoval (Chair), Sherri Hanke, Amanda Milholland, Barb Trailer NON-VOTING MEMBERS PRESENT: Mari Mullen, Bill Roney, Arlene Alen MEMBERS EXCUSED: Robert Birman, Janette Force, Dave Robison MEMBERS ABSENT: Denise Winter CITY STAFF PRESENT: City Manager David Timmons, Deputy City Clerk Haylie Clement, Marketing Director Christina Pivarnik Topic Action Chair Michelle Sandoval called the meeting to order at 3:10 p.m. Approval of Minutes: April 18 and July 10, 2018 Unanimously Approved General Announcements: • Mari Mullen reported on recent Main Street Program events including Concerts on the Docks, Uptown Street Fair, and Girls Night Out. Upcoming events are the Give Jefferson Campaign and Winter Marketing Campaign. Mari Mullen also discussed winter lighting, Creative District designation and an advertisement at the Alaska Airlines terminal in Sea-Tac airport which was acquired through a Port of Seattle lottery. • Arlene Alen gave an update on the Chamber’s new website which should launch any day. • Sherri Hanke discussed recent political issues related to the Orca whale population and the wide spread news coverage related to the issue. Sherri Hanke also informed the group of a trip to London planned with the Port of Seattle to participate in the World Trade Market. • Amanda Milholland reported on the Farmers Market status. Funding from Jefferson County LTAC has helped in advertisements. Upcoming participation in a Local Food Expo. • Barb Trailer reported on Wooden Boat Festival and totem pole installation. R2AK, Seventy48 and CMR to be combined into one large event. • Nathan Barnett reported on the upcoming Yuletide festivities and the Big Brass Yuletide Ball. • Bill Roney updated on the Apple & Cider Festival, Olympic Discovery Trail, and lodging tax revenues in County. • Christina Pivarnik reported on Olympic Peninsula Tourism Summit, “Come Back Campaign,” digital and print advertising, plus a media FAM tour with a journalist from Topic Action Cara Magazine (Aer Lingues inflight publication) writing about the food and cider scene here. • David Timmons gave updates on Capital Improvement projects and private development in the City. 2018 Budget Status Report: David Timmons opened the budget discussion with comparing private and government related revenues. During the summer months, revenues are hitting max capacity. Overall, the budget is coming in as expected. The group discussed lodging vacancies and ways to survey guests. 2019 Budget Status Report: The Committee discussed shifting of funds and contracts in 2019. Options for future funding was discusses including new public restrooms, winter lighting and parking. Next Regular Meeting: January 8, 2019 with a Special Meeting planned in November 2018 Adjourn: The meeting adjourned at 4:50 p.m.
