RESOLUTION NO. 19-067
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND,
WASHINGTON, AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE AN
EMPLOYMENT AGREEMENT WITH JOHN MAURO TO SERVE AS THE CITY
MANAGER FOR THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND
WHEREAS, the City of Port Townsend is a council manager city organized under the
optional municipal code; and
WHEREAS, RCW 35A.13.050 describes the process by which a city council hires a city
manager and says that a city manager"shall be chosen by the council"; and
WHEREAS, the Port Townsend Municipal Code 2.10.020 requires that"the city
manager shall have experience and education suitable to manage the city. This includes a
minimum of five years' management experience in duties related to the responsibilities of the
position, and a master's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, public
administration, or any equivalent combination of education and experience"; and
WHEREAS, the City Council conducted an extensive and public search with the
assistance of an executive recruiter to find the best candidate for the vacant city manager
position; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that John Mauro is the best candidate to
serve as the Port Townsend City Manager; and
WHEREAS, the City and Mr. Mauro have agreed on the terms of his employment;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port
Townsend:
The Mayor is authorized and directed to execute an employment contract with John
Mauro to serve as the City Manager for the City of Port Townsend with a starting salary
of$156,000 per year.
ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend at a special meeting
thereof, held this 22nd day of July 2019,
