Minutes of the Port Townsend Arts Commission Meeting of May 1, 2019 LOCATION: City Hall Conference Room 3

Topic Motions/Recommendation/Action
Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 3:03 p.m.
Approval of Agenda The agenda was approved unanimously
Approval of Minutes for April 3, 2019
The minutes were approved unanimously, with Dan
Groussman and Maryann Tapiro abstaining as they were not at the last meeting.
Public Comment No public comment
Chair’s Update and Announcements Owen Rowe informed the Commission that he will be working
with another group that meets monthly to work on the Creative
District application. It was also announced that there is a Chamber lunch on May 20 where City Manager David Timmons will be speaking about the Visitor Center project. The unveiling and dedication for this park will be in November 2019.
Budget Update
There is approximately $7,000 left in the general Arts Commission budget and $5,500 left of LTAC funds.
Funding Application: Native Connection Action Group
Barbara Blair presented a request to fund outreach for the dedication ceremony for the Chetzemoka Trail, as well as help promote activities that will be happening at the dedication. Funds would help reach neighboring counties where S’Klallam visitors reside.
The Commission voted 6-0 to fund $2000 from the general
Arts Commission budget, with Shelly Leavens recused.
Topic Motions/Recommendation/Action
Funding Application: Centrum The Commission unanimously agreed to postpone action
until the following meeting.
Funding Application: Port Townsend Film Festival The Commission unanimously agreed to postpone action until the following meeting.
Discussion of Songwriting Award proposal
Owen Rowe suggested a possible songwriting contest much like the one act play contest that the Commission is part of.
There was consensus that there are other art forms the
Commission could be involved in and more discussion is needed prior to taking any action. This topic will be added to a future agenda.
Angel and Patron of the Arts update This is still scheduled to happen in the Fall.
Outreach Committee Update
The Outreach Committee is working on revising the application form to make it more user friendly and including a sample budget. They will also be looking at other forms. The next Outreach Committee meeting is scheduled for May 30, 2019.
Next Meeting: The next regular meeting will be June 05, 2019.
