PARKS, RECREATION & TREE ADVISORY BOARD MEETING MINUTES
Date: August 28, 2018 Time: 4:30 pm Location: City Hall First Floor Conference Room

Topic Motions/Recommendation/Action
Agenda: The agenda was accepted without change.
Approval of Minutes The minutes of July 24, 2018 were unanimously
approved.
Public Comment: Robert Gray commented on Kiwanis Club park adoptions.
Arbor Day Event Planning: Alex Wisniewski introduced the Arbor
Day event as an annual fall activity the board puts on, though
traditionally celebrated in April, the Board’s event being in October lines up with Urban and Community Forestry Month. Debbie Jahnke requests that the group discuss what type of event should take place in 2018 and when would be an appropriate date to request a
Proclamation from Council.
There was general agreement that the Board will request
a Proclamation date of October 1, 2018 with the event
planned to be on Sunday October 21st at Sather Park.
TreeLine USA: After being unsuccessful in prior years, The Board
discussed reaching out to the Public Utility District (PUD) to promote
joining TreeLine USA as a way to ensure proper pruning procedures when trimming around power lines. It was noted that with new management and new PUD board members, it would be a good time to reach out again.
The Board unanimously agreed to draft a letter to send
to the PUD to show support for them to join the TreeLine
USA program and, upon City approval, to send one or two board members to have a discussion with PUD.
Recreation and Maintenance Update: The Director’s Update report was reviewed. The group discussion a recent fire at the Kah Tai Lagoon Nature Park public restroom which was noted in the report.
There were concerns about timing of the repairs going into the wet season. Daniel Greholver mentioned that there may be volunteers willing to make repairs to help prevent further damage to the building.
RCO Trail Grant Update: Alex Wisnewski and Debbie Jahnke
updated the Board on the final presentation for a grant to improve the loop trail. Preliminary results will go out mid to late September, but the final results will take longer.
Workplan – Park Rules: The Group was presented with a list of park rules currently listed within the Municipal Code and asked to come up with ideas for rules that can be posted at City Parks. The current focus
is for general rules and later, park specific rules will be added. Ideas
discussed included: No littering No alcohol/drugs The City is not responsible for stolen items
No dumping of household trash
Park hours: dawn to dusk No weapons No metal detecting (digging) Fires is designated grills only
Public Comment: Richard Dandridge commented on the Chetzemoka Interpretive Trail Sign project. Robert Gray urged caution when
approaching PUD and not to interfere with the City’s existing
relationship.
Next Meeting: The next regular meeting will September 25, 2018.
