RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL FOR THE CITY OF PORT
TOWNSEND ENDORSING THE 2003 PORT TOWNSEND FILM FESTIVAL,
AND WAIVING RENTAL FEE FOR THE POPE MARINE PARK BUILDING
The City Council of the City of Port Townsend, Washington, does resolve as
follows:
WHEREAS, the Port Townsend Film Festival is moving forward with its fourth
annual celebration of film, September 26 - 28, after conducting a serious examination of
its financial situation; and
WHEREAS, it has been determined that by redesigning the festival it will begin
to thrive in a way that will assure a long future for the festival; and
WHEREAS, the new approach involves re-scaling the scope of the festival to
better fit the demand by reducing the number of seats available; and
WHEREAS, the large venue at the high school is being eliminated this year but
since that will cut a few too many seats, others need to be added elsewhere. This may be
accomplished by switching the video venue from the Oracle Arts Center in the uptown
business district, which has a seating capacity of 50, to the Pope Marine Park building
which accommodates about half again as many; and
WHEREAS, because the audience is primarily peninsula-based (80% reside on
the Quimper, Kitsap and Olympic Peninsulas), the Film Festival is seeking local
sponsorships through cash or in-kind services to support the festival.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council for the City of
Port Townsend hereby endorses the 2003 Port Townsend Film Festival and waives the
rental fee of the Pope Marine Park building, in exchange for the substantial public benefit
derived by the City of Port Townsend.
ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend at a regular
meeting thereof, held this nineteenth day of May, 2003. ~~~.
