Re: BLD07- Integrated Marine Systems Spray Booth, 755 Haines Place

I am in receipt ofthe set ofplans for the above-referenced proposal from your office.
The above-reference proposal was reviewed by this consulting fire code official, with the International
Fire Code [I.F.C.], 2006 Edition and Washington State Amendments.
The following constitutes this plan examiner's findings and determinations based upon the plans of record
submitted.
It is understood that automatic sprinHer system detail plans and specffications are deferred submittals.
Fipdines & Determinations:
1. The proposal was reviewed as a proposed spray booth kit assembly and placement in a storage
occupancy with Type V-B construction classification; and,
2. Existing road access for this proposal is found to be consistent with Section 503 and Appendix D fire
apparatus access road design standards.
3. Access to building openings is found consistent with the I.F.C. Section 504 which requires an
approved access walkway leading from fire apparatus access road(s) to exterior openings thatare required
by the Fire Code or Building Code, and;
4. Electrical equipment and wiring located outside of , but within five feet horizontally and three fee
vertical of openings in a spray booth shall be approved for Class I, or Class II Division 2 hazardous
locations, whichever is applicable, subject to permitting and inspection by the Washington State
Department of Labor & Industries.
5. An automatic fire suppression system (sprinklers) is required under I.F.C. Section 1504.4. Protection
shall extend to the exhaust plenums, exhaust duct and both sides of dry filters when such filters are used.
The automatic fire sprinkler system shall be designed, installed, and certified by a licensed technician
(W.A.C. 212-80) or registered professional engineer using the design provisions of NFPA 13 and related
sections, and;
6. An automatic fire detection alarm system is required for this occupancy and shall

for an extra [highf hazard ocaupancy, which normally requires a 4-A:40-B:C minimum rated fire
extinguisher at the exit, and;

8. Any fire damper installation shall be inspected and tested in the presence of the building inspector
prior to compartment/area isolation and closure, and;
9. The spray booth shall be equipped with interlocks meeting Section 1504.6.1 .2.1 of said Code, and;
10. Mechanical ventilation of flammable vapor areas shall be provided in accordance with Section 510 if
the International Mechanical Code, and meet the operation, re-circulation and air velocity requirements of
Section 1504.7 of the Intemational Fire Code, and;
11. The termination point for exhaust ducts discharging to the atmosphere shall meet the requirements of
Section 1504.7.6 of said Code, and;
12. Air intake filters that arc part of a wall or ceiling assembly shall be listed as Class I or II in
accordance with UL 900. Exhaust filters are required and shall comply with Section 1504.7.8 of said

This permit application is for the installation of a Commercially available paint
booth in an existing wood frame metal sheathed shed. The paint booth was purchased in
kit form from Auto Body Toolmart of Cary Illinois. Assembly and installation will be
provided by integrated Marine Systems personnel. All electrical work will be provided
by eithel Frederickson Electric or Double Dee Electric in accordance with applicable fire
and electrical codes. Tom Aumock, working with East Jefferson Fire & Rescue, has
made a site visit and has reviewed the proposed installation, if you have questions please

The paint booth will be used to spraypaint marine refrigeration equipment
manufactured by Integrated Marine System. Spray paint application activitytakes place
on average about I hour per day 4 days per week. This project is an important safety
improvement for our company.
