Dt: 03 August 2007 Re: BLD07- Integrated Marine Systems Spray Booth, 755 Haines Place Cc: Mike Mingee, Fire Chief, East Jefferson Fire & Rescue I am in receipt ofthe set ofplans for the above-referenced proposal from your office. The above-reference proposal was reviewed by this consulting fire code official, with the International Fire Code [I.F.C.], 2006 Edition and Washington State Amendments. The following constitutes this plan examiner's findings and determinations based upon the plans of record submitted. It is understood that automatic sprinHer system detail plans and specffications are deferred submittals. Fipdines & Determinations: 1. The proposal was reviewed as a proposed spray booth kit assembly and placement in a storage occupancy with Type V-B construction classification; and, 2. Existing road access for this proposal is found to be consistent with Section 503 and Appendix D fire apparatus access road design standards. 3. Access to building openings is found consistent with the I.F.C. Section 504 which requires an approved access walkway leading from fire apparatus access road(s) to exterior openings thatare required by the Fire Code or Building Code, and; 4. Electrical equipment and wiring located outside of , but within five feet horizontally and three fee vertical of openings in a spray booth shall be approved for Class I, or Class II Division 2 hazardous locations, whichever is applicable, subject to permitting and inspection by the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries. 5. An automatic fire suppression system (sprinklers) is required under I.F.C. Section 1504.4. Protection shall extend to the exhaust plenums, exhaust duct and both sides of dry filters when such filters are used. The automatic fire sprinkler system shall be designed, installed, and certified by a licensed technician (W.A.C. 212-80) or registered professional engineer using the design provisions of NFPA 13 and related sections, and; 6. An automatic fire detection alarm system is required for this occupancy and shall 7. Fire extinguisher sizing and placement shall meet or exceed IFC Section 906 and NFPA Standard 10, for an extra [highf hazard ocaupancy, which normally requires a 4-A:40-B:C minimum rated fire extinguisher at the exit, and; C:\Documents and Seftings\Tom\Iv1y Doouments\Business\City Conhact\Plan Review & Conespondence\BlD 200?\BLD07- lntegrated Marine Systems Spray Booth.doc 813t07 8. Any fire damper installation shall be inspected and tested in the presence of the building inspector prior to compartment/area isolation and closure, and; 9. The spray booth shall be equipped with interlocks meeting Section 1504.6.1 .2.1 of said Code, and; 10. Mechanical ventilation of flammable vapor areas shall be provided in accordance with Section 510 if the International Mechanical Code, and meet the operation, re-circulation and air velocity requirements of Section 1504.7 of the Intemational Fire Code, and; 11. The termination point for exhaust ducts discharging to the atmosphere shall meet the requirements of Section 1504.7.6 of said Code, and; 12. Air intake filters that arc part of a wall or ceiling assembly shall be listed as Class I or II in accordance with UL 900. Exhaust filters are required and shall comply with Section 1504.7.8 of said Code, and; 13. The northeast side of the spray booth is hereby allowed to be placed within twelve inches of the side wall sinse said side wall is made of concrete, and adequate cleaning can be maintained, and will thus comply with Section 1504.3.2.5 spray booth set-back requirements. Any other applicable or relevant sections of said Code not covered herein shall nonetheless apply to this proposal from Chapter 15 of the I.F.C. 2 hours time was logged in the review of this proposal. It is the recommendation of this consulting fire code official that the proposal be approved subject to the aforesaid requirements of the International Fire Code. The paint booth was purchased in kit form from Auto Body Toolmart of Cary Illinois. Assembly and installation will be provided by integrated Marine Systems personnel. All electrical work will be provided by eithel Frederickson Electric or Double Dee Electric in accordance with applicable fire and electrical codes. The paint booth will be used to spraypaint marine refrigeration equipment manufactured by Integrated Marine System.
