MEMBERS PRESENT: Abbie Greene, Dominica Lord-Wood, Kris Morris, Owen Rowe, Stan Rubin (Chair), and
Lisa Wentworth, Dan Groussman MEMBERS EXCUSED: None

Topic Motions/Recommendation/Action
Approval of Minutes: August 2 and August 23, 2017 The minutes were unanimously approved with typographical revisions.
The Commission discussed the upcoming Angel of the Arts award process. The award ceremony will be held on February 2, February 9 or February 16. Stan Rubin will reserve the dates in the Cotton Building with the Finance Department.
The Board reviewed the draft 2018 Budget Request as prepared by Dominica Lord-Wood The Commission voted 6-0 to forward the request to City staff with minor revisions. Dominica Lord-Wood will email the final
version to staff. Stan Rubin will meet with City Manager David
Timmons to discuss the proposal
The Commission discussed options for crafting a strategic
plan. Possibilities included:
• a Commission website;
• online directory of artists/venues;
• revision of the Commission charter by Council
• new performing arts center
• surveys of artists, organizations, hotels, spaces
• City branding
• Collaboration plans with arts organizations
• Setting up a 501c3 to collect donations
• Issuing permits for temporary street installations
• Encouraging guerrilla art installations
• Facilitating artists who can’t access traditional spaces
Commissioners will contact other organizations/artists to gain
input into what the Commission’s strategic plan should include. Kris Morris will contact Carla Caldwell to help facilitate discussion at a future meeting.
