I asked Berg's office to prepare the proper doe's for a formal permit to replace the rear stairs/deck to current codes. We will also do what is required for the Historic et. al. Unfortunately Richard was walking out the door for two weeks so we won't be able to,stamp them. What I hope will work for both of us is: (1) I can do the emergency repairs as marked up on the photos. At least then no one will fall through the deck and we can safely access the second floor. (2) We will provide all the proper documentation to rebuild the rear portion to code. Whatever time that takes then will not impede my ability to get the structu ral engineers on site to determine the seismic upgrades that will be required. However, you need to apply for a permit the next day. If you are snaking normal repairs to stairs then a permit application should be submitted prior to beginning the work, R' will be in loulsbo tomorrow morning but will try to took at the stairs in the afternoon. I would suggest that you bring in a simple sketch and apply for a permit in the morning to expedite the process. I bought the building across the street and need to make some emergency repairs on the back steps. Some stringers and post supports and a couple of pieces of plywood, No historic change, no color selection, no engineering, no expansion of area etc, problem is if I can't repair the stairs in a timely tanner I won't let anyone up the stairs to do the interior investigation in prep for seismic upgrades. Have you got time to meet, presumably at your office, or if you like we can meet at the building; 926 Water Street. I'm trying to determine the minimum paperwork required to get this emergency permit. Repair cost about 1 0 to $1800, Thanks Duncan (360) 344-3336. 6/24/2008
