NON-MOTORIZED TRANSPORTATION ADVISORY BOARD MEETING MINUTES Date: April 6, 2017 Time: 4:30 pm Location: City Hall 1st Floor Conference Room Members Present: Lys Burden, Scott Walker, Joe Finn, Pat Teal, Mark Henthorn, Jolly Wahlstrom, Richard Dandridge, Hendrik Taatgen Members Excused: Mike Kaill
Staff Present: Parks and Facilities Manager Alex Wisniewski, City Clerk Joanna Sanders
Approval of Minutes: March 2, 2017 unanimously approved
Topics: Trail naming, pruning and gravel at 35th. Mr. Wisniewski explained the need for trail identification for maintenance/emergency purposes and talked about trail maintenance funds being included in the Parks budget for 2017 with a focus on the loop trail and those trail connections. Discussion ensued about the pros/cons of numbering versus naming. It was noted that a trail classification system might be needed involving coordination with NMTAB. 35th Street Park. Mr. Wisniewski explained some of the minor improvements completed as part of this new off-leash area.
League of American Bicyclists award ceremony: Lys Burden reported on her work with Tyler Johnson on preparations for the City/TLAB Bike Festival event on May 1. Flyers were distributed. There was discussion of coordination of refreshments. Lys agreed to forward a Bike Month proclamation to the Clerk’s office for the Mayor’s consideration.
Bike Lane painting: It was mentioned that the paint is fading on San Juan Avenue as are some crosswalks around the City. The clerk suggested these instead be submitted directly as citizen concerns as this striping responsibility falls with the street crew.
Letter to Council re: information holders. A draft letter to Council was distributed as was a list of possible locations. There was some discussion of printing costs and process.
