NOTICE OF INTENT TO
APPROVE FINAL DOCKET FOR
CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND
2017 ANNUAL COMPREHENSIVE PLAN UPDATE
The Port Townsend City Council will meet on Monday, April 3, 2017, at or about 6:30
p.m. in Council Chambers, 540 Water Street, Port Townsend, WA to accept public
comment and consider approving the docket for the 2017 Annual Comprehensive Plan
Update; specifically:
• Amendments to the City's Critical Areas Ordinance (CAO) codified in
Chapter 19.05 of the Port Townsend Municipal Code (PTMC). The CAO
update is a remaining step from the 2016 GMA Periodic Update. Critical
areas regulations apply city-wide. (Resolution 16-049)
• Amend the Shoreline Master Program to update the reference to the
Critical Areas Ordinance.
• Initiating a Comprehensive Plan amendment related to the Howard
Street/Sims Way Corridors (Resolution 17-012). The study area can
generally be described as approximately 200 acres of land zoned for
general commercial (C-II), Mixed Light Manufacturing and Commercial
(M-C) (including the Port Townsend Business Park), and mixed use (C-II
MU) generally bound by Sheridan Street on the east, the city-limits on the
west, 12th Street to the north and the city-limits to the south along with
multi-family (R-III and R-IV) parcels bound by Discovery Road on the
south, 15th Street on the north Howard Street on the east and Spring
Street on the west.
Council previously indicated its intent to place these on the 2017 docket by adopting
Resolutions 16-049 and 17-012. These are the only two items under consideration —
additions to the docket will not be considered. The Council's decision to place a
proposed amendment on the final docket does not constitute a decision or
recommendation that the proposed amendment should be adopted. Further review and
opportunity for public comment will be available prior to adoption which is anticipated to
occur in mid-September 2017.
