HomeMy WebLinkAbout111016 FINAL MinutesLODGING TAX ADVISORY COMMITTEE SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES DATE: November 10, 2016 START TIME: 3:00 p.m. LOCATION: City Hall Conference Room 3 VOTING MEMBERS PRESENT: Michelle Sandoval (Chair), Nathan Barnett, Sherri Hanke, Amanda Milholland, Denise Winter, Todd Gubler, Janette Force, Cindy Finnie, Barb Trailer NON-VOTING MEMBERS PRESENT: Mari Mullen, Teresa Verraes, William Roney MEMBERS EXCUSED: Dave Robison, Robert Birman CITY STAFF PRESENT: City Manager David Timmons, Marketing Director Christina Pivarnik, Deputy City Clerk Joshua Stecker Topic Action Chair Michelle Sandoval called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. Approval of Minutes: August 25, 2016 Unanimously approved. David Timmons gave an overview of the proposed 2017 budget, noting 2016 projected Lodging Tax revenue at $466,000 and a proposed 2017 budget of $433,000. Highlights of the proposed budget included reduced funding for the Fort Worden PDA ($30,000, down from $40,000 in 2016), a winter campaign budget, and a Cotton Building rental fund. Christina Pivarnik gave an overview of the proposed advertising budget and presented advertisement examples for the current winter marketing campaign. Teresa Verraes requested an increase in the Visitor Information Center operating budget from $118,873 to $121,500 to cover increased payroll expenses. Cindy Finnie noted the lack of growth in downtown lodging numbers. Todd Gubler reported on Fort Worden’s “How to get Here” and What to do Here” videos which will be made customizable for others to use. The Committee discussed possible future expenditures and long- term goals including a temporary ice skating rink, a passenger ferry and a performing arts center. The Committee unanimously approved recommendation of the budget as proposed with an increase in the operating budget for the Visitor’s Center to $121,500.
