Flammable and combustible liquids shall be removed from the tank and connecting piping; 2. Piping at tank openings which is not to be used further shall be disconnected; 3. Piping shall be removed from the ground; EXCEPTION: Piping is allowed to be abandoned in place when the Fire Chief determines that removal is not practical. Abandoned piping shall be capped and safeguazded as required by the Chief. 4. Tank openings shall be capped or plugged, leaving a 1/8-inch to 1/4-inch diameter opening for pressure equalization; and Tank shall be purged of vapor and inerted prior to removal. 6. Tank shall be disposed of in accordance with federal, state and local regulations. 7. In the event contaminated soil is found, all work shall cease. The contractor shall contact the City of Port Townsend Building Department immediately and request a site visit by the Building Official. No contaminated soil may be removed prior to the visit by the Building Official. 8. In the event contaminated soil is found, a remediation plan shall be submitted for approval to the Building Official regazding method of disposal, stockpiling of contaminant and appropriate clean-up practices. All activities shall be consistent with the Uniform Fire Code, City Ordinances and the Department of Ecology Standards, RCW 90.76, WAC 173-360 for removal and disposal of contaminated soils. 2.
