Home My WebLink About052416 FINAL Minutes PARKS, RECREATION & TREE ADVISORY BOARD MEETING MINUTES Date: May 24, 2016 Time: 4:30 pm Location: City Hall First Floor Conference Room Members Present: Debbie Jahnke (Chair), Brenda McMillan, Ed Robeau, Jim Todd Members Excused: Jason Cecil Staff Present: Deputy City Clerk Joshua Stecker; Parks & Facilities Manager Alex Wisniewski Topic Motions/Recommendation/Action Approval of Minutes: April 26, 2016 Unanimous approval. Public Comment: Robert Gray advised the Board that new appointments would be moving forward. He also informed the Board that he is working with the fairgrounds to build a fenced off leash area. He also would like to see Kah Tai Nature Park renamed Kah Tai Nature Reserve. Alex Wisniewski reported on pool activities and increased attendance along with an update of parks hiring activity and maintenance projects. He also updated the Board on Mountain View space planning progress. Debbie Jahnke and Ed Robeau updated the Board on Council’s leash law discussions. Debbie Jahnke and Robert Gray will contact the City Clerk about reactivating the SpeakUp PT discussion on animal control for the Council General Services and Special Projects Committee upcoming deliberations. Debbie Jahnke submitted a list of projects for the DNR urban forestry work crew to address next year. Debbie Jahnke presented a proposal to name the park with the playground next to Bishop Park on Parkside “Pirate Park.” The Board voted to recommend naming the park “Bishop Play Park.” Debbie Jahnke noted that the Arbor Day proclamation in April had to be postponed. The Board voted to move Arbor Day observance to October. The Board reviewed Ed Robeau and Debbie Jahnke’s draft letter to Council asking for a full-time Volunteer Coordinator staff position. Debbie Jahnke will submit the letter to Council. Debbie Jahnke presented the Declaration of Interest forms from two potential Board members. The Board recommended that the Mayor appoint both applicants. Debbie Jahnke will forward the recommendations. The Board held election of officers. Debbie Jahnke nominated Ed Robeau for Chair. Jim Todd nominated Debbie Jahnke for Chair; Debbie Jahnke declined the nomination. Ed Robeau nominated Debbie Jahnke for Vice Chair. Ed Robeau was unanimously elected Chair. Debbie Jahnke was unanimously elected Vice Chair. Next Meeting: June 28, 2016 Adjourn: The meeting was adjourned at 6:05 p.m.
