RESOLUTION NO. 16-023
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND,
WASHINGTON, DESIGNATING OFF-LEASH DOG AREAS WITHIN THE CITY OF
PORT TOWNSEND
WHEREAS, Chapter 8.04 of the Port Townsend Municipal Code requires dogs to be
kept on-leash while on City-owned property and rights-of-way unless those areas are specifically
designated as off-leash areas; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council ("Council") has considered the recommendations of the
Parks, Recreation and Tree Advisory Board as well as public comment on this matter; and,
WHEREAS, Council acknowledges the need to balance the needs of all of the Citizens
of Port Townsend, including the recreational needs of both dog owners and non-dog owners;
NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port
Townsend as follows:
1. The Dog Park at Chetzemoka is designated as an"off-leash" area within the City of
Port Townsend.
2. Council directs that the City Manager provide additional recommendations for off-
leash areas on City-owned property; and, that the City-Manager coordinate with other
public agencies to determine whether they would be willing to allow dogs to be off-leash
on properties belonging to those agencies. The City Manager shall report potential off-
leash areas to the General Services and Special Projects Committee.
3. The City Manager is authorized to take other administrative actions consistent with this
Resolution.
ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend at a regular meeting
thereof, held this 16th day of May, 2016.
