HomeMy WebLinkAbout060975 Min r MINCES OF PORT TOWNSEND PLANNING COMMISSION OF JUNE 9r 1975 Chairman Lester called the meeting to order. All Commissioners were present, except Tiller and Lefler. Also attending were City Council- man Black and Randy Tyler, City Planner. The minutes, which were mailed to the Commissioners, were approved. First on the agenda was the request of Mr. and Mrs, Walter Addie to vacate that portion of Logan St. between Blocks 3 & 4 and Blocks 5 & 6, and that portion of Rosecrans Street between Blocks 2 & 7 and 3 & 6 , and that portion of McClellan Street between lots 2 & 7 and Blocks l & 8 , all in W. H. Whittlesey' s Addition to the City of Port Townsend, This was tabled at the April 28 meeting of the Commission. Street Superintendent Ed Hawley explained that the purpose of the request is to straighten the streets and eliminate the jogs. The Addie' s wish to dedicate the land for this purpose . The streets will not be permanently vacated. Craham/Wo j t moved to recommend to the City Council these streets be vacated to realign then with no jogs , contingent with the rededication of the streets. VOTE: yes 4 no copy of a letter written by Harriett Goss to KaiserSteel was received by the Commission and read by day Woj . Mrs.. Woj t distributed data about possible kinds of controls over land use, from a Conference she attended. Request of Go L. Iseman for a vacation of Lawrence Street between Clllam and .the meander lime of Admiralty Inlet. Proposed use: single res den-tial. During discussion, a question arose with regard to the legality of vacating streets that abut or enter into the water, Johnson/Scott moved this be referred to the City Attorney for instructions as far as legality is concerned. VOTE: yes 4 no 0 The secretary was instructed to write Cita Attorney Glenn Abraham in this regard. Public Hearing on the request of the Point Hudson Company for a rezone of property located at Subdivision: One - Original Townsite - Port Townsend Section: 1 Township: 30 N Range: 1 West W.M. Jefferson County from P-I to R-III . Proposed Use: multiple residential condominiums The hearing was taped and members of the audience were invited to participate . The following members of the audience spoke against the rezone: Jeff Pederson: He maintained that, since surrounding properties are zoned R-II, an R-III rezone would be spot zoning. Also, Jackson Street would be the only access to the condominium and since it is already well-traveled street, he felt there would be a traffic problem. Mr. Pederson was also concerned about property values in the area. Mr, Cooper: Was concerned that the Point Hudson area would become more of an eyesore than he feels it already is.
