'� �n�nut s of the meeting held in November were approved as read. Chairman Miner thea read correspondence which had been received by the Commission, A letter from the Woolman School presented by Mr. Canfield of the City Council was favorably accepted. Following th is r a letter from the Jefferson County Planning Department informing the Planning Commission of a meeting regarding the proposed Trident Submarine base was read. This meeting was held o 17, 19739 It was attended by Max Loomis. An informal discussion was then held by the Planning Commission as to the possible effect the proposed base might h ave on the community. Next on the agenda was a communication from Mir. Roger French l, City Engineer, dated January to, 1974 . Su j c : "Radon Boat Company variance Application." This, in substance, stated that the Office of the City Engineer "is responsible for the interpretation of the zoning boundaries and is also responsible for the guidance of the applicant in those cases where the application does not conform to the zoned area. " discussionConsiderable on this with both Mr. French and City Attorney Abraham was held. A motion was then made and carried to hold a Public Nearing on this application at the next meeting to be held on February 25 . The secretary was instructed to put a notice of the hearing in the Leader. Newt followed lively discussion on street vacations to allow for ". hikiig and horseback riding trails and taking into considera- tion density of population that now exists and might soon come into effect* It was decided that these vacations be kept in a discussion stage for the time being, The Secretary was instructed t write a letter to the City Council stating that the City Planning commission is studying these ideas in detail to conform with State of Washington ecology plans for the future. It was decided to engage the services of a professional planner to warp on these ideas . ( Budget allowing $1200 . for his services of two or three days a month) . A motion was then made and carried that. Chet Chairman be requested to instruct the Planner to make a proposed street and trail plan for review by the Planning Commission, Vacation petitions referred to the Planning commission were then taken up as follows January 28, 1974 Page Two Petitioners J, Frederick Palmer (and wife Helen) and F.L. Z iel (and wife Lillian) requested vacation of "the West loo foot portion of McKinley Street lying between Clallam and Hudson Street. " A motion was made and thea amended to deny this request on the grounds that this property entails a viewpoint location potentially vital to future city plans. Vote on this motion resulted in a tie vote as follows: Voted that the above petition be denied: Fred Lester, Mrs . Kay voyt , Ed May. Against denial: max Loomis, Robert Johnson, Harry Deits. Chairman day Miner, then using his option to break a tie, cast his vote to deny this petition Cleveland Street between 10th and 11th Vacation requested by Jack Scott (and wife Betty) and .Tames A. DeLeo mainly for "preservation of trees and possible use as a horseback riding and hiking area. " A motion was made and carried to postpone decision on this request until such time as the Planning Commission has core up with definite plans re street vacations for recreational areas. Vacation Petition Re: " 'hat portion of Shasta Street lying between 6th Street and 9th Street from the North Side of h Street to the South side of 9th Street." Filed by Lonny Kvinsland (and wife Ruth) and Herbert Enfield (and wife Crystal) . A motion was made and carried that the City Planning Commission recommend to the City Council that this vacation be granted. From the north side of 6th to the south side of 7th and from the north side of 7th to the south side f 9th. The meeting was then adjourned.
