Members present were: Marylou Green, HarI7 Deits., Mary Johnson,
Fred Imster and Gael Stuart. Nor. Clark of .ark-Coleman & Rupeiks
was also present.
The minutes of the previous session were read and approved.
A e t r rom oleman and lupeiks was read giving the progress
report for the month of June. A copy is attached.
Mrs., Green reported that the Port Commission mi-11 contribute $429.00
to the second phase of the pl program.
The matter of buil =' g and' fire codes has been referred to the Central
labor Council. for recommendations.
Mr. Lester asked for a clarification of committee and sub-committee
responsib' 't . Mr. Clark stated that the committees are to stud the
problems assigned to them, and to e recommendations to the l
Comnission. Mr. Clark also stated that the Commission could refer
problems to the proper committee if it wished, and if there was time.

Matters was read, It requested the pl fim to gyre particulars
attention to Preservation of historic buildings.
Mrs. Johnson explained her committee's position and announced that
Professor St inbrueck will be available to discuss the matter of plan-
=g with particular emphasis on developing the interest of the people
in the preservation of Port Townsend's architecture.
-Mr. Clark reported that the second phase of pl Is has been approved o-cjl
and should be completed by late spring or before summer. He presented
the third phase of the program. A copy is attached. The comprehensive
plan should be completed by Late 1966, and the zoning ordinance should be
rem for presentation shortly after that.
Mrs. Green reviewed the total planning costs and presented the following

Mrs. Green presented the proposed budget for 1966. The budget .is to be
presented to the City Clerk for presentation to the City Council. The
amount requested from the City of Port Townsend is $ 5.00. The 1965
budget was $2710.00. After discussion it was moved by Mrs. Johnson and
seconded by fir. Deits that the 1966 budget be adopted by the Cession
and presented to the City Council.. The motion was carried. The budget
includes an item of $15.00 for m ership in the Planr .ng Assoclation
of Washington. A copy 1s attached.
Professor Steinbrueck spoke to the group and complimented Port Townsend
on its activities and emphasized its potential. A general discussion
followed in which the following points were stressed.
1. Mr. William Eaton stressed the need for wider publicity for
things that are going to occur rather than the reports after they have
happened.
2. Professor Steinbrueck stressed that the building code should
be so written that if remodeling were dome on historic buildings it
would not require standards that would destroy their historic value,,
3. Mr. Felson of the Fort Commission stated that the poplar trees
along the highway were already ding when the lagoon was f .ed. They
were dying as a result of the change in grade of the highway.
.. I r. Clark emphasized the commercial value of trees and land-
scaping, and expressed a hope that whenever possible trees would be
protected.
. Mr. Jack Tice of the Central Labor Counci.1 expressed the
oprj3on that the National Univofm Building Code with some local modifi-
cations wo d meet the need pf the city..' He further stated that our
permit fees had been lour, and with the adoption of the new s chedul e
there should be adequate fbuxds for in pection and enforcement of a code.
6. Mrs. Eleanor Nelson stressed that commercial interests
should be aware of the need for keepi
