MINUTES OF OCTOBER 24, 1985
L Opening Business
Chainia pan Slater called the meeting to order at 7:30 3C P. .
Members present were Nancy Slater, Don Hoglund, Bob Grimm, Jim Tavernakis,
Jim Campbell., and Alan Carman.
Jim Tavernakis moved_that the minutes of October 3, 1985 be approved a
mitten. Ban Hoglund seconded the motion and the vote was unarlimous.
Jim Tavernakis stated that several members attended the Planning Course and
he collected some of the handouts and would share k ith any of the commissioners
that wanted then.

Mr. Canfield explained lained that he granted to build a 5 foot fence to gain privacy .
He said that he originally planned to build the fence 8 years ago and had been
given permission by city engineer, but had i-rafted too long to build and now
needed a variance,
The commission discussed rith harm About the fence and its location.
Jim Tavernakxs stated that the overall bulk of the fence would be located at
the back of the buildings in the area. At present, the applicant was denied
his privacy without a fence. An existing fence now abutts J. Wilson's property.

Jim Campbell moved that Application No. 985-01, a Variance Request, be recommended
for approval to the City Council as it mets the criteria in Zoning Ordinance
1625, Section 6.10, there eras no adverse testimony from neighbors, the overall
bulk of the fence -would be at the back of buildings 'in the area, would not be
detriment to public safety and would insure applicatt I s Privady. -- 'Jim Tavernaki
seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous. Jim Campbell would ate the
report for the City Council),
III. Application No. 985..02 Ronald C. & Rosemary Sikes
Street Vacation Application 1709 Gise
07th Street between Gise and Wilson) Port Townsend., Ila.
Mrs. Sikes explained that the primary reason for the street vacation request
was that they granted to add on to their house and here was no room to do so.
The neighbors seemed to be in favor.
Joe Vick explained that he had not enough time to study the reque t.

Mr. Tavernakis explained that he had no problem with the street as it was not
realistic to open as a street, but tras concerned about drainage in the area.
The Sakes stated that a creek appears in the Winter (not along the proposed
vacation), but have never noticed puddles around the property.
Mr. Sikes said that the soils were good for drainage in the area.
Mr. Carman stated that the majority of the drainage goes down into the creek.
The drainage problem was discussed and whether a street through there i a
feasible. The problem of iandloc ing some of the lots eras discussed also.
Jin Taverna .is moved to recommend approval for street Vacation No. 985-02
as it meets all the criteria for a street vacation with the condition requiring
the lot line be vacated irithin individual o mer hip along proposed vacated
street to preclude the landloc ing of any parcel.. Bob Grimm seconded the motion
and the vote was unanimous. Nancy Slater would write the report for the city
council.
