Minutes of Special PEG Committee Meeting of Thursday, March 29, 2007
Members Present: Mark Welch, John Watts, Tom Opstad, Dennis Feten, Gary Nelson, Karen Nelson
Public attendees: Carl Nomura and JoAnn Busse
Station Manager Gary Lemons was also present.
ACTION TAKEN:
Mark Welch and Karen Nelson were unanimously appointed cc -supervisors of PTTV pending the hiring of a
station manager.
•Steve Emery was unanimously authorized by the PEG Committee to change and program tapes, schedule and
report to the Leader and the PDN and to fill in the gaps in whatever needs to be done at PTTV. Steve will also be
available between 10:00 a.m.and 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. on Tuesdays (starting April 17) and
Wednesdays to run the switcher for PTTV members.
Karen will be the scheduling coordinator for live in studio programs and will have a key to the studio. Mark and/or
Karen will return phone and email messages.
Karen was unanimously authorized to generate a press release that stated the studio would be closed during the
week of April 1-9 during the PTSD Spring Break. Thereafter, during the week of April 9-13, the editing suites will
be open to PTTV members on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. and on
Wednesday from 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. During subsequentweeks until a station manager is hired the PTTV hours
will be Mondays from 8:00 a.m.-2:30, Tuesdays from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00, Wednesdays from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00,
Thursdays and Fridays from 8:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m..
The Boiler Room project was discussed and the PEG Committee unanimously resolved to recommend to Council
during its April 16 meeting that the Boiler Room PTTV membership and training fees be an IN KIND donation from
the City of Port Townsend for the purpose of contributing value to the Boiler Room organization.
The internship program between the Peninsula Daily News, Peninsula College and PTTV was briefly discussed
and further discussion was delayed until after Tom Opstad, Mark Welch and Karen Nelson attend the April 19
meeting with Deb Johnson, of Peninsula College, Jeff Chew and Paul Gottlieb, of the Peninsula Daily News and
volunteer Paul Richmond, former member of the board of directors of SCAN N (Seattle's Public Access Station).
Karen Nelson mentioned that Ian McFall, the executive director of the Economic Development Council, wanted to
start a PTTV series featuring interviews of SCORE mentor/executives that provides a step by step template for
starting and growing a small business. This series would not only be broadcast on PTTV, but would also be
available at the Port Townsend Public Library and the Jefferson County Library as well as the EDC office.
• The "Sea Inside:Pacific Northwest" eight part series was discussed. Karen Nelson mentioned that the Marine
Science Center is willing to promote the series in conjunction with PTTV. Sponsorship was discussed. Karen

Nelson mentioned that the owner of the Port Townsend Dive Shop indicated that he might be interested in
sponsoring the producer, John Williams' membership. The board discussed the concept of having the Port
•Townsend School District or the City of Port Townsend sponsor educational programs that the PEG Committee
deemed to be in the interest of the public to see. No action was taken, but further discussion regarding this
matter will be held at a future meeting.
