It was noted that the email should also be cc'd to the Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners as well as the Jefferson Transit Authority Board for their consideration. There are numerous benefits from active transportation and transit: • Climate Change—Active transportation and transit can help us meet our goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. • Environmental—Active transportation and transit is good for the environment (e.g., less pavement and exhaust translates to improved water and air quality) • Economic—Active transportation and transit saves money and energy. • Health—Active transportation gets people moving. • Social—Active transportation and transit encourages social interactions. • Transportation—Active transportation and transit reduces traffic congestion. For the City of Port Townsend Comprehensive Plan, this could be accomplished by modifying/adding to existing policies in the Transportation Element, under the heading of Parking Management. For example, Policy 7.14 could be modified as follows: Policy 7.14: Consider parking pricing policies for on-street parking to reduce parking impacts in the DewRtewR commercial districts-aed to promote awe active transportation modes (e.g., PaFk and file fee+lity, transit, bicycles, etc.). Explore the feasibility of paid parking as a means to fund active transportation improvements. Thank you for considering this request. Cindy Jayne, Chair, Climate Action Committee PC-22
