Subject: Active Transportation name change
Hi all,
The NonMotorized Transportation Advisory Board asked me to remind you that we would
like to have our name changed from its current name to the "Active Transportation Advisory
Bnuod" We feel itwould better reflect our mission in upnoitivc rather than negative
connotation.
Interestingly,— ithas come tnour attention that contained inthe draft proposals for the Comp
Plan is urccnrnrncndation that the name hc changed to something we consider tnhc uvvkvvuod
and misleading. blthe draft work plan for the Comprehensive Plan, item 432nfthe
"Preliminary Scope of Work", it states: "|n light of recent legal challenges, rename
"NonMotorized Transportation P|an" to "Active Recreation and Alternative Transportation
P|an''" We believe that considering the issue is legally unresolved, it is premature to propose
this change.
Below are our further issues with that proposed name change.
The term "active recreation"is somewhat clear enough, but is not broad enough to include
active transl2ortation for either utility, recreation, commuting, or cnrnrncrcc.
The term "alternative transportation" ioand has been unimpediment tnpublic understanding
and acceptance of walking and bicycling being uprirnury form and urnuch older form of
transportation than the car. The term alternative iovery misleading and confusing.
Plcuoc consider our request that the name hc changed tnbetter reflect our mission and gnu]o;
the Active Transportation Advisory Board.

Thank you,
