Warm and dry weather has continued to persist and City water consumption for the past seven days has averaged 1.6 million gallons per day, an increase of 0.2 million gallons per day from the week prior. Water conservation tip of the week: How much are water leaks costing you on your water and waste water utility bill? A slow drip can waste 15-20 gallons per day while an unseen toilet leak may be wasting 100 or more gallons per day. Hardware stores should have the necessary parts to replace the o-ring or packing washer inside the faucet valve that will usually fix most drips. You may not hear the sound of running water if the toilet is leaking. An easy leak test is to remove the toilet tank lid and add food coloring* to the tank. If the coloring appears in the bowl after a few minutes the flapper plug may be leaking and need to be repaired or replaced. While looking in the top of the tank check to see if the water level is below the top of the overflow tube. If necessary adjust the float so that the water shuts off when the level in the tank is about 1" below the top of the tube. *The Utility Billing Department at City Hall also has colored leak detection tablets for this purpose. 0.0' 5.0' 10.0' 15.0' 20.0' 25.0' 30.0' 35.0' 40.0' 0 200,000 400,000 600,000 800,000 1,000,000 1,200,000 1,400,000 1,600,000 1,800,000 L a k e L e v e l (f e e t ) & V o l u m e (m i l l i o n g a l l o n s ) W a t e r C o n s u m p t i o n (g a l l o n s p e r d a y ) 2015 City of Port Townsend Water Consumption & Lords Lake Reservoir Level City Water Use (gpd) Lords Lake Level (feet) 500 MG 300 MG 400 MG 100 MG 200 MG 570 MG
