HomeMy WebLinkAbout2015-06-26 Water Supply Status Report Port Townsend Water Supply Status
Updated 6/26/15
Due to the low stream flows this year we anticipate having to start drawing water from Lords
Lake reservoir in the next few days, two months earlier than usual. We will still be able to
continue to withdraw a decreasing volume of water from the Big Quilcene River for several
weeks. Lords Lake currently contains 570 million gallons, 70 million gallons more than its
normal full capacity. At the City and Mill's current consumption rate of 10.5 million gallons per
day, Lords Lake has enough water for three months of supply. City Lake is also full at 140
million gallons and will be held in reserve for municipal consumption and health and safety
purposes. Ultimately the severity of our water situation depends upon the timing of the fall rainy
season. The more we conserve now the longer we can extend the availability of our limited
water resources. Water conservation information is available at the City's Water Quality web
page http://www.cityofpt.us/waterquality.htm.
The graph below tracks the Lords Lake Reservoir level and City water use and will be updated
weekly. For reference the average winter time water use in the City was 725,000 gallons per
day.
