2016 GMA
PERIODIC UPDATE
"The future of Port Townsend depends on the actions and plans of
its citizens today. It is important, therefore, to understand what
Port Townsend citizens want their city to be like in 20 years and
beyond, what they want to preserve, and what they want to
change."
(from Port Townsend 2020: Getting Together, Final Report)
What is the GMA?
Growth Management Act (GMA) 1990.
•
Enacted in response to rapid population growth
•
Our growth has slowed significantly
•
(less in 2036 than previously projected for 2016)
•
GMA and our Plan have been amended several times
•
since 1990.
Why an Update?
GMA requires periodic review of the plan and
•
development regulations
Consistent with relevant changes in the GMA
•
Respond to changes in land use and population growth.
•
At least once every eight years (June 2016)
•
Miss it and there are immediate financial consequences-
•
ineligible to receive funds from the Public Works Trust
Fund or the Centennial Clean Water account or to receive
preference for other state grants and loans.
