HomeMy WebLinkAbout120314 Port Townsend Arts Commission FINAL Meeting Minutes - Dec 3, 2014 Downstairs Meeting Room, City Hall Members present: Stan Rubin (Chair), Kris Morris,Laureen Martin, Linda Okazaki, Dominica Lord-Wood, Lisa Wentworth, Dan Groussman (minutes). Guests: Owen Rowe, Steve Gross, Denise Winter (Key City Players) Review of Minutes: MOTION: KM moved to accept November's minutes with minor corrections to narrative,seconded by DLW. PASSED unanimously. Chair's Report: SR introduced us to the city's new lapel pin; it shows our city's newly designed logo...get yours upstairs. SR announced that in January we have inter-commission elections per our bylaws. SR presented a summary of the recent CVI meeting and asked commissioners what role we'd like to play in the future direction of this group's agenda. Community Chorus thanked us and said,"The PTAC promotes and encourages public programs to further the development,public awareness and interest in the arts." SR says our current budget for next year will stay at$19,600,same as last year,even though we requested an increase to better meet the needs of our support requests. Jan Halliday has invited the commission to attend the Sklallam tribe carving shed (5k per foot) to see the contruction of totem poles being built. Port Townsend's new City Attorney, Steve Gross introduced himself. His experience involved public art in Auburn where he was involved in placing public art as part of a streetscape. He said he understands public art and looks forward to working with the PTAC. LO asked if Steve could explore the concept of awarding funds to individual artists vs.non-profit organizations. Steve said he'd visit the Commission on occasion as he better acquaints himself with the various organizations in the city. Financial Report: SR handed out the PT City ledger and we cleared up some discrepancies. Public Art: KM has communicated with Matt Babcock. He may be available around the end of Jan for documenting (Dan and students). Guest Guest Denise Winter entered the meeting 4:05 Angel of the Arts: new angel date jan 30th. LM will check availability of the Cotton Building and re-connect with everyone about their duties,etc. Denise Winter attended the meeting to coordinate with us on the date of Feb 27 for the PTAC Free Playwriting Workshop. She also handed out information on hosting Doris Baizley as Guest Playwright for Playfest this year. MOTION: KM moved to approve$900 out of our 2015 budget to host Doris Baizley for the Free Playwriting Workshop, 2nd by DLW. Passed unanimously. Linda announced that Frank Vane passed recently. Mr.Vane's contribution to the Arts Commission and to our community was recognized. Funding Support: Funding support applications from Arts to Elders and OCEAN were deferred until January's meeting.
