Old Business. Notes from last meeting:
Rick Jahnke is guest rep from Admiralty Audubon speaks about Tony Angell project.
Kris had meeting with John Watts at Maritime Center re: installation site as public
land. Talked about direct acquisition of art. PTAC will make recommendation to city
council. Ken Claw will meet and look at potential site to see about issues. Jan is
working with Greenstone landscaping; subcontractor that can help with installation
and meeting with artist. Estimate in costs revisited.
Tony Angell project to be funded by PTAC in the amount up to $3,000 towards
payment of artist, plaque and installation. KM made motion, LM seconded.
Zhaleh [and baby Darius] from OCEAN school, part of public schools, in support of pt
time home schooling families as a performing Arts school. Marc Weinblatt, also of
OCEAN, has worked with KCPT. Stage combat donated, HS donating sets, YMCA
donates rehearsals space, parents actively donate time and support. VOICE volunteer
of ICE goes through parents, receives checks. Last year $1050 was funded to Odyssey.
Similar resources for needs of tangibles. The school only has a small amount of
students, but reached a wide amount of the public [800 previously] and is considered
a cultural benefit to the community. Erin asked why amount should be increased, and
use of videographer as requested last year is now in use. Kris made motion for $1250
based on the 3rd page of their proposal, organized in detail by category, seconded by
Dominika.
KCPT Denise Winter, talks about success of"pay what you wish" program and
increase of attendance. Funds needed for playwright festival, use of Cotton building for
free. PT Shorts and pay as you will have helped community interest. The pay what you
wish grant makes theatre more accessible. Park shows are pay as you wish, will have
more shows due to popularity this year. For five years has supported it. If there is a
full house offer extended other times, seeing 24%-30% in tourism [non-locals
attending] creates outreach to other communities. Prior years $2800 -$2500 was
needed to balance out budget due to more people attending pay as you wish programs.
This year's proposal is for $3,000 because of increasing costs of supplies, etc. LM
makes motion to pay KCPT up to $3,000 and Erin seconds motion.
Playwright seminar has Richard Dresser, popular writer of the book `Johnny Baseball'
as guest this year. Denise is getting a strong reputation to get new and popular writers
from all over. Workshop increases from $600-900 workshop for public, also free.
Linda makes motion to pay Richard Dresser $900, seconded by KN.
New Business
Kris and Erin talk about public art project. Erin says meeting is requested to
postpone. Scotty [admin] is overwhelmed and has to delay application process.
Discussed Wayne Chimenti [sp?] application. Janette of PT Film Festival has free
admission we fund. $6600 high, revised to $5000. Last year $2200. Request for higher
amount being considered.
